On 10 June 2026, the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów (UITM) hosted the “Skills Without an Expiry Date” conference — an event dedicated to the role of continuous education, professional development, and lifelong learning in today’s rapidly changing world.
The SUSEE project was represented by Grzegorz Karpiuk, SUSEE Project Manager and UITM Representative for International Projects, who delivered a presentation on the multidimensional character of the SUSEE initiative and its direct connection to the principles of lifelong learning.
A Project Built for Continuous Growth
During the presentation, it was highlighted how SUSEE — Smaller Universities for Sustainability in Engineering Education — goes beyond the boundaries of a traditional academic project. As a cooperation partnership co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme (KA220-HED), SUSEE connects smaller universities across Europe in a shared effort to embed sustainability into engineering education.
The project operates on multiple levels simultaneously: fostering cross-border academic collaboration, developing innovative teaching methodologies, creating virtual learning resources, and equipping students and educators with competencies that remain relevant long after formal education ends.
SUSEE and Lifelong Learning
The theme of the conference — skills without an expiry date — resonated strongly with the SUSEE mission. The project’s approach recognises that sustainability literacy and engineering competencies are not static. They must evolve alongside technological, environmental, and societal change.
By producing open-access virtual lectures, international workshops, and collaborative learning formats involving partner universities from Poland, France, Germany, and Italy, SUSEE actively contributes to a culture of continuous education — one that extends well beyond the walls of any single institution.
Looking Ahead
As the SUSEE project continues through its final year, running until November 2026, events such as the “Skills Without an Expiry Date” conference serve as important moments for reflection, exchange, and public engagement. They reinforce the value of European academic cooperation and the shared commitment to preparing future engineers for a sustainable world.
